(C) *They planned out the city of Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro before they lived there. *The Harappan civilization fell with a natural disaster such as a monsoon, flood or an earthquake.II.Progress & Development A. Important Leaders {When they lived; What they did} 1.Chandragupta Maurya is the first Indian Empire in 320 B.C-298B.C. (A) * He ruled in the Mauryan empire 2.Ashoka organized his territory and second ruler of the Mauryan Empire 304 B.C- 237 B.C. (A) 3. Cryrus ll was the ruler of the Persian Empire in India 550 B.C- 320B.C. B. Advancements 1. Inventions (progress, transportation, improvements of life) *The first Indian writing system was developed and the Indus valley around 2600 b.c. and is still use today.(B) *They also developed systems of weights and trade of jewelry and game pieces.(B) 2. Architecture (looks, materials, special buildings / landmarks) *Around the Indus valley civilization, the building were very organized.(D) *Building were made out of solid brick and stone and had drainage systems, wells and water storage systems.(D) C. Daily Lives (ex. Work, Religion, Family Traditions, Education, Food, etc.) 1. Quality of Life (ex. class systems, freedoms of religion/ education / work, access to food, money, did they have a good life or rough times...) *India had a caste system for their class system. * * 2. Religion *Hinduism (C) 1. People used texts of the Vedas(C) 2. The Vedas were the oldest extant texts in India(C) *Buddhism (C) 1. People fallow the Eighthfold path. 2. They also followed the Four Noble Truths. 3. The Four Noble Truths explained that: 1. Suffering is part of life for all people 2. People suffer because they want so many things in life. 3. If people can free them selfs from not wanting so many things, they will not suffer. 4. People can free themselves from wants and from suffering by following the Eighthfold Path. *The Buddha(C) 1. Siddhartha Gautama (C) 2. He used meditation and he achieved Enlightenment. (A) 3. He used the Four Noble Truths to understand his enlightenment.(A) 4. He was born in about 563 B.C. (A) 5. His father was a wealthy ruler and told him to stay in the castle to be a great king or a great teacher. (A)
